Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant, as well as mother Vassiliki "Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou), a contestant on the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. He is the younger brother of Athena, who is also a drummer. Lee was only two years old [4] when his father took his family on a trip to the United States. Lee received his first drums at the age of four and his first drum kit when he was a teenager. In pursuit of a career as musician and performer, he quit high school and joined the L.A. nightclub band Suite 19. As a teen the band played Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Kiss, AC/DC and Sweet. His most significant drumming influences include John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge, Alex Van Halen and Terry Bozzio
