She's reported on sports for some of some of the most prominent media in the world. She was a reporter for The Washington Post nearly a decade, covering Grand Slam Tennis and Grand Slam Football as well playing basketball in multiple Olympics. In 2004 Nichols moved on to ESPN for a period of nine years in which she earned two Emmy Awards and appeared on some of the network's most frequented shows such as SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. Her Monday Night Football coverage as an official reporter was a one of the areas she worked at the network. Then she moved on to CNN as well as Turner Sports. The first show she created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired weekly on CNN as well as CNN International. It boasted over a billion viewers worldwide. Nichols also worked for TNT on NBA broadcasts during the playoffs as well as All-Star broadcasts. Her work with TBS covered golf and baseball coverage, and Final Four broadcasts by CBS. Only the second woman has been selected amongst more than two hundred nominees in the 42-year old history of this award.
