Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the United States. She's worked as media critic since. She founded Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments analyzing the portrayals of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and is directed by Sarkeesian. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are depicted in pop media. Additionally she aims to create the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women and those who are marginalized. Holding a master's degree in political and social thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender identities and feminisms from the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while she was still at university. She was a young woman who wanted to create the series of videos on the internet that would examine gender representations in games. In the end, she ended up being the victim of online harassment.
